Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is a major NHS provider delivering acute hospital services to approximately 1 million people across Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey and south Buckinghamshire. Formed through the merger of 2 Trusts, the organisation operates 3 main hospitals: Frimley Park Hospital, Wexham Park Hospital, and the modern Heatherwood Hospital. It offers a range of services, like emergency care, specialist tertiary treatments for heart attacks, hyper-acute stroke services, vascular surgery, and adult cystic fibrosis care.

Challenges

The NHS Trust had multiple social media accounts belonging to several departments. Some of those were active and had many followers and some were obsolete and abandoned. The challenge was to come up with a strategy that allows the consolidation of social media accounts without removing the ability for the staff to promote and publicise content specific to different hospital departments.

How we did it

The solution

A successfully implemented social media consolidation strategy for Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust streamlined its online presence and improved performance. Following extensive consultations with key stakeholders and department heads, a comprehensive social media strategy document was produced. This document performed a full audit and analysis of the Trust’s digital presence, calculating the relative weight, reach, and audience engagement for all existing social media accounts. It then provided a clear, actionable framework for a partial consolidation strategy, designed to amplify the strongest voices while reducing fragmentation and administrative burden.

The plan was presented, approved and implemented with great success, leading to a more cohesive and authoritative online presence for the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. The restructured approach was well received by both the public audience, who benefited from clearer and more consistent communication, and by hospital staff, who experienced improved internal workflows and a stronger, unified brand message across platforms.

The project resulted in a 19% increase in total followers, a 56% reduction in the number of accounts for more focused management, and a 100% improvement in overall management efficiency.
