Finally some good news for the UK Beauty and Cosmetics industry. Personal Care has now been recognised by the Government as a separate business sector. It includes beauty, aesthetics, spa and hair care separately on the own and away from the hospitality industry.

This is hugely significant for a variety of reasons. One of the most obvious ones right now being COVID restrictions across the UK. As part of the hospitality industry, cosmetics and aesthetics businesses suffered specifically and persistently as they were bundled with the Hospitality industry which is a major player in preventing the spread of infections.

Registering this new business sector was not easy. It took 2 years of campaigning from a variety of business associations representing the interest of this huge part of the UK economy. They campaigned consistently for months. It led to the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to recognise the sector-specific status and open the door for further opportunities after the current pandemic.

To make all of this happen, the following organisations contributed:

  • British Beauty Council
  • UK Spa Association
  • British Association of Beauty Therapy & Cosmetology (Babtac)
  • National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF)
  • Hair & Barber Council

However terrible the current situation, the future of the Personal Care sector has just received a great boost.

Cheers
